"27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself."
Tonight is Daniel's first communion after the congregational Seder Meal.
When I was the primary confirmation teacher, I would teach my students these six questions because of the tremendous blessings and import of this amazing, Sacred Meal.
- Do I believe in the Triune God?
- Have I sinned?
- Do I repent?
- Do I trust in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus for the forgiveness of my sins and for eternal life?
- Do I promise that I will amend my sinful life, with the help of the Holy Spirit?
- Do I trust by faith that in the Sacrament I am receiving the very Body and Blood of Jesus Christ?
These are not exactly the ones I learned from my pastor, nor are they identical to the ones I know other pastors teach or use. But I have found them helpful and I hope you do, too.
May your day be richly blessed!
